Ancient Pyramids Collapse In Mexico, Local Tribe Warns Of “Impending Doom”

Ancient Pyramids Collapse In Mexico, Local Tribe Warns Of 'Impending Doom'

The Purepecha defeated the Aztecs and ruled for 400 years

Two pyramids in Mexico used by an ancient tribe for human sacrifices have caved in in a “supernatural sign of impending doom”. Descendants of the indigenous tribe who built it fear a huge natural disaster is about to hit after devastating storms ravaged one of two twin pyramids, the New York Post reported.

Pictures show the structure partly collapsed after heavy downpours on July 30, which washed away one side. The pyramid was built by ancestors of the modern Purepecha people, a bloodthirsty tribe that defeated the Aztecs.

Historians say the ancient Purepecha tribe used the Yacata pyramids for human sacrifices to their most important god Kurikweri. The Yacata pyramids are found in the archaeological site of Ihuatzio in the Michoacan state.

Tariakuiri Alvarez said the storm may indicate impending doom, as per their indigenous traditions.

He said: “For our ancestors, the builders, this was a bad omen that indicated the proximity of an important event.

“Before the arrival of the conquistadors, something similar happened, which for the  Purepecha a worldview of that time was because the gods Nana Kuerhaepiri and K’eri Kurikweri were displeased.”

The  Purepecha defeated the Aztecs and ruled for 400 years before the Spanish invasion in 1519.

The Ihuatzio archaeological zone was occupied from 900 AD first by the Aztecs and then by the Purepecha until the arrival of the Spanish invaders.

The Mexican National Institute for Anthropology and History (INAH) released a statement on Wednesday.

It said: “On Tuesday night, a collapse occurred in the central part of the southern facade of one of the pyramidal bases of the Ihuatzio Archaeological Zone.

“This happened because of the heavy rainfall in the basin of Lake  Purepecha, with an accumulation above the expected average of precipitation.

“High temperatures, previously recorded in the area, and the consequent drought caused cracks that favoured the filtration of water into the interior of the pre-Hispanic building.

“Beginning in the early hours of July 30, personnel moved to the heritage site to assess the damage caused.

“Their observations confirmed the damage to at least six of the stepped bodies of the so-called South Base, both in its exterior wall of slabs, as well as in its core and retaining wall.

“Damage assessment activities continue and are focused not only on recovering the affected part but also on thoroughly repairing the structure of the building.

“Work carried out in the past, using techniques and materials that are not currently in use due to their negative effects, has an impact on the conservation conditions of the pre-Columbian structure.

“For this reason, the issue is addressed from an interdisciplinary perspective, to provide the building with the necessary conditions for its restoration and conservation.”

Hindenburg Claims A “Pathetic Damp Squib,” Says Mahesh Jethmalani

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani has slammed US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research’s latest claims as “pathetic damp squib”. “The announcement prior to its alleged big revelation itself reveals its motive: to destabilise India’s stock markets. The pre-publicity ill behoves a reputed “research analyst”,” read his post on X, formerly Twitter. “There being nothing new against the Adani group,” the US shortseller is targeting SEBI’s chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, Mr Jethmalani added.

Hindenburg’s Saturday’s allegations has been slammed by the industry, the ruling BJP and others.

The Adani Group has termed the allegations “malicious, mischievous and manipulative” . The group said it has no commercial relationship with SEBI chairperson or her husband.

“For a discredited short-seller under the scanner for several violations of Indian securities laws, Hindenburg’s allegations are no more than red herrings thrown by a desperate entity with total contempt for Indian laws,” the group said in an exchange filing.

Last month, market regulator SEBI (Securities Exchange Board of India) had sent a show-cause notice to Hindenburg and its sole beneficial owner Nathan Anderson. The regulator had flagged violations by Hindenburg and Anderson under the SEBI Act, SEBI’s Prevention of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices regulations, and SEBI’s Code of Conduct for Research Analyst regulations.

“SEBI had issued a notice to Hindenburg seeking information regarding the circumstances of the Adani short sale as it was entitled to. Instead of responding to these Hindenburg has chosen to attack its Chairperson on the ground of conflict of interest,” Mr Jethmalani said.

“The picture thus is one of a US based profiteer who made millions of dollars at the cost of Indian retail investors now hedging questions legitimately asked by the Indian regulator and brazenly defaming the latter without answering its questions. This reeks of colonial arrogance of days bygone,” his post read.

“It is time the govt of the day turned its serious attention to these anti nationals who have no other agenda but to  disrupt  India’s social fabric, distort its polity and now devastate its economy,” he added.

Arshad Nadeem Gets Hero’s Welcome In Pakistan, Set To Receive Hilal-e-Imtiaz For Olympics Gold

The Javelin Throw gold medallist in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, is set to be honoured with Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the country’s government. Hilal-e-Imtiaz is the second-highest civilian award given by the Government of Pakistan and Nadeem will get this award following his brilliant performance in the final of the competition. Pakistan’s athlete won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record and surpassing Denmark’s Andreas Thorkildsen’s mark from Beijing 2008. Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.

“The president will confer the civilian award to Nadeem in a special ceremony, recognising his distinguished services in the field of sports,” a statement from the Aiwan-e-Sadr said, as quoted by Geo News.

India’s Neeraj Chopra fell short of retaining his gold medal, finishing with a best throw of 89.45 meters. Despite a strong performance on his second attempt, he struggled with four consecutive foul throws, which prevented him from winning gold.

Chopra became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event.

Following the failure to defend his gold medal, Neeraj expressed dissatisfaction with his performance and revealed that the last two to three years were not good for him in terms of fitness.

Speaking after the event, as quoted by Olympics.com, Neeraj said, “It was a good throw but I am not that happy with my performance today. My technique and runway was not that good. (I managed) only one throw, the rest I fouled.”

“(For my) second throw, I believed in myself to think I can also throw that far. But in javelin, if your run is not so good, you cannot throw very far,” added Neeraj.

UK ‘Dine And Dash’ Couple Leave Restaurant Without Paying Bill Worth 12,000, Post Pics On Facebook

UK 'Dine And Dash' Couple Leave Restaurant Without Paying Bill Worth 12,000, Post Pics On Facebook

A couple who went out to dine allegedly left a bill of 120 pounds (12,000 approximately) behind when they left the restaurant on August 5 after sharing pictures of their meal on Facebook. The two are alleged to have indulged in six espresso martinis along with gourmet burgers, halloumi and sweet potato fries, and Biscoff cheesecake at the Lazy Fox in Dorset, United Kingdom. The couple, seen in a restaurant-released video, took an hour to eat their meal before leaving “for a cigarette,” but they never came back, as per a report in the Independent.

The restaurant claims they left quickly after the man posted images of the food and beverages on Facebook. Co-owner of Lazy Fox, Mauricio Spinola, stated that the incident took employees off guard and that if the money isn’t returned, it will be a strain for his already financially challenged company.

“It was probably about 10 minutes after they went outside we realised they had gone. I couldn’t just head out and look for him, I still had a bar to run,” she said.

Ms Spinola continued, “It’s a big hit for a small business like ours, we just can’t afford to lose over 100 pounds in the current climate. We can’t ask people to give us their phone or wallet when they go out for a cigarette. The vast majority of our customers are great and would think that is weird.”

Dorset Police said that on Monday, they got a report about customers who had left the restaurant “without paying for their meal.”

A waitress at the Lazy Fox described the duo and said that the blonde woman wore red lipstick and a white top under a white dress. She was a little drunk, and they were both a little energetic. “We were keeping a close eye on them especially when it came to serving them drinks. After they finished she said she wanted a dessert and ordered the cheesecake. The woman then stepped outside for a cigarette and the man followed her out and they never came back. We were rather busy at the time but we trusted that they weren’t going to do that,” she said.

Co-owner Enoely Fernandez also bashed the couple, calling them “silly” for boasting about their lunch on Facebook following the incident. Since the owners uploaded the embarrassing post on social media, several other restaurants have come forward, claiming they were previously fooled by the couple.

“The hard thing is the guy didn’t look suspicious. He wasn’t drunk. He wasn’t shouting. He wasn’t disruptive. He asked to go out for a cigarette and of course we said that was fine. It was difficult for our bar staff as we just had to reassure them that they had done nothing wrong. It’s just really annoying for everyone,” Ms Fernandez said.

Paraguayan Swimmer Luana Alonso, Kicked Out Of Paris Olympics 2024, Says Neymar “Sent Me A DM”

Pictures shared by Luana Alonso and Neymar on Instagram© Instagram

Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso who was allegedly kicked out of Paris Olympics 2024 village has revealed that Brazilian footballer Neymar Junior recently sent him a private message on Instagram. Alonso’s revelation comes day after reports claimed that the organising committee kicked her out of the Summer Games village for allegedly creating an “inappropriate atmosphere”. Speaking to Paraguayan radio show Aire de Todos, the 20-year-old has claimed that former Brazil captain is a huge fan and slid into her DMs, without revealing much details.

“He sent me a DM. That’s all I can say. It was left on the request form. I cannot tell this here,” Alonso said, as quoted by Fox Sports Mexico.

On her reported exile from the Olympic Games Village, Alonso also told that she was never removed or expelled from anywhere, urging people to “stop spreading false information.”

Neymar is set to miss the start of the next Saudi Pro League season as he recovers from a serious knee injury, Al Hilal’s coach said on Tuesday. The Brazilian attacker suffered the injury in October and missed much of the current campaign, but Al Hilal still won the league for a record-extending 19th time earlier this month. The Saudi league traditionally starts in August and the former Barcelona and PSG star will also miss next month’s Copa America.

“All I know now is that the time given to Neymar to recover and with similar injuries it is approximately from 10 to 11 months,” Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus told reporters during pre-season.

The 32-year-old Neymar had surgery in Brazil in November for a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus damage.

He was stretchered off in tears during Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier in October after colliding with an opponent.

Neymar left PSG for Al Hilal in 2023, the latest world-famous footballer snapped up by the big-spending Saudi Pro League.

He earns 100 million euros a season in Saudi Arabia, while PSG pocketed 100 million euros in the deal.

A Tour Of Neeraj Chopra’s Panipat House: Swanky Cars, Bikes And A Dog

India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra could only fetch a silver medal as he looked to defend his title at the Paris Olympic Games 2024 in the men’s javelin throw final. Neeraj was outscored by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who threw an Olympics record-breaking effort of 92.97 meters, stunning the entire sporting fraternity. Despite Neeraj’s lack of success in breaching the 90-meter mark in the Paris Games, he created history, becoming the only athlete of India to bag two track & field medals in consecutive Olympic Games. Considered one of the most focused athletes in the country, Neeraj has already given the country many historic accomplishments. But, little is known about his personal life.

As NDTV reached out to Neeraj’s family in Panipat, we got a glimpse of his luxurious house, his swanky car collection, and the Olympics connection behind the name of his Golden Retriever dog.

Neeraj, who is considered one of the most humble sportspersons in India, has a crazy car collection. He also has a few high-end bikes.

It was also found out that the name of Neeraj’s dog is Tokyo, derived from the ace athlete’s gold medal-winning throw in the previous Olympic Games, which were held in the city.

After his silver medal at the Olympic Games, Neeraj said that he has been competing with Arshad since 2016 and it’s the first time that the Pakistani athlete managed to get the better of him.

“Arshad performed well and I would like to congratulate him. I’ve been competing with him since 2016, and this is the first time he has won while competing together,” said Neeraj after the final.

“Despite the injury, I am pushing myself hard. The throw was good, but I still have a lot left in me, and I need to stay fit to achieve it,” said the Tokyo Olympics gold medallist.

Hitting the 90-meter mark remains one of Neeraj’s biggest targets. He couldn’t achieve the landmark in Paris but hasn’t lost hope.

“I haven’t achieved a 90-meter throw yet, but during the second attempt, I felt that today might be the day. I have faith in myself, and I know I’ll reach that milestone someday. Holding your flag and winning a medal for your country is an incredible feeling,” said Neeraj.

“The last two or three years were not so good for me. I’m always injured. In training, I’m not doing a lot of throws because of my groin (injury) I really tried hard, but I have to work on my injury (staying injury-free) and technique,” he concluded.

“Sorry For What Happened But We Have To Follow Rules”: World Wrestling Body Chief To NDTV

File photo of Vinesh Phogat© ANI Photo

As India waits for the results of wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s hearing at the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS), the United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic shared an important insight as far as the entire weigh-in controversy is concerned. Lalovic, in an exclusive chat with NDTV, expressed his sympathies over the entire incident that saw Vinesh being disqualified from the Paris Olympic Games on the morning of her gold medal bout. Vinesh’s weight was reportedly just 100 grams over the 50kg mark that she needed to touch in order to be eligible for the final bout. But, she had to be disqualified.

Vinesh decided to lodge an appeal at the CAS, the results of which are still awaited, but the UWW chief doesn’t think there’s much scope for change in the results as the wrestling body was only following the rules that have been laid down.

“I am so sorry for what happened, but no matter the size of your country, athletes are athletes. This weigh-in was public, everyone saw what happened. How can we allow someone to compete when we all saw what happened. We don’t have any other choice but to follow our rules,” Lalovic told NDTV.

“We introduced that rule because of the care for the health of the athletes. Athletes have been obliged to weight rules in order to compete. Maybe some slight adjustments in the rules can be made, but we are not changing the rules. We are counseled and helped by our medical commission. They are absolutely against any change,” he added, ruling out the possibility of a major overhaul in weigh-in rules.

While the gold, silver and bronze medals have already been handed in the 50kg women’s freestyle wrestling, Vinesh has appealed for a joint-silver to be granted to her as she had already made the final while passing the weigh-in test.

Though there’s no provision for a second silver to be given but Vinesh and those fighting for her, haven’t given up hope.

Chilling Details In Kolkata Rape-Murder

'Eye Injuries, Neck Bone Broken': Chilling Details In Kolkata Rape-Murder

The rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor has sparked massive protests

Kolkata:

The body of the 31-year-old doctor raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata had multiple injury marks suggesting violent assault, an initial autopsy report has revealed. “There was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth, injuries over the face and nail. The victim was also bleeding from her private parts. She also has injuries in her belly, left leg… neck, in her right hand, ring finger and… lips,” the report said. It also ruled out suicide.

“This is definitely not a case of suicide; the woman was murdered following sexual assault,” a police officer told news agency PTI.

“Her neck bone was also found broken. It seems that she was first strangulated and then smothered to death. We are waiting for the full report of the autopsy,” another police officer told PTI.

One person has been arrested in connection with the crime that has shaken the state and sparked massive protests by doctors. The Opposition has targeted the Mamata Banerjee government over the incident at the state-run hospital. The ruling Trinamool Congress has responded that it is leaving no stone unturned to ensure strict punishment for the perpetrator and said it is open to a central agency investigation too.

The victim was a postgraduate trainee of chest medicine and was on night duty when the incident took place. Her body was found on Friday morning at a seminar hall of the hospital.

A doctor at the hospital told PTI, “She had dinner with her juniors around 2 am. She then went to the seminar room since there is no separate on-call room to take some rest. In the morning, we found her body there.”

The accused, according to multiple reports, is a civic volunteer. The police, however, refused to confirm this and said that he is only a criminal for them. The accused, it is learnt, was tracked down after police found a bluetooth headset at the crime scene. Police then tracked the CCTV footage that placed him at the crime spot.

The incident has sparked a massive political row, with the BJP and other Opposition parties demanding a CBI probe. Union Minister and state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar has said, “You can hide the data in the National Crime Records. But the kind of incidents that are happening prove that they (women) are not in a good situation.”

The ruling Trinamool Congress has said they are open to a probe by any agency. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured that she will seek death penalty for the perpetrator. Ms Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has said those convicted in such cases should be given “capital punishment or encounter”. “The Centre should bring in an ordinance calling for immediate action against such culprits. This could be made into an amendment after six months,” he said, assuring that the Trinamool will support such a law. He hoped that the other Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Left, would have no objection either.

Mr Banerjee said such a law would prevent prolonged trials that can last five to six years and save taxpayers’ money. “These rapists, who don’t deserve to live in society, should be dealt with either through encounter or by hanging,” he said.

Hundreds of fleeing Rohingya turned away at Bangladesh border after drone strike

A drone attack that killed over 200 fleeing Rohingya Muslims near the Bangladesh border on Monday has forced hundreds to return to their hometowns, while thousands are still taking shelter in paddy fields awaiting to cross into neighboring Bangladesh, a rights group said on Sunday.

Risking their lives, a few hundred have moved toward areas held by the rebel group, which is accused of carrying out the deadly drone attack near the Naf River that makes a natural boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar.

“Rohingya in Maungdaw (town) are still trying to flee to Bangladesh. Some are fleeing to areas controlled by the Arakan Army as they don’t see any other alternative, Nay San Lwin, the co-founder of Free Rohingya Coalition, told Anadolu.

Free Rohingya Coalition is a global network of Rohingya activists.

Monday’s deadly attack took place in Maungdaw township of Myanmar’s Rakhine state, which borders Bangladesh.

Videos posted on social media showed piles of bodies strewn across muddy ground, with their luggage scattered around them.

The latest attack, viewed as part of an ongoing onslaught by the rebel group on Rohingya, has raised fears of further escalation in violence against the fleeing people, who have already been reeling from a systemic cleansing operation by Myanmar’s military junta.

Thousands of Rohingya had fled to Maungdaw township following the capture of adjoining Buthidaung town by rebels in May this year.

Buthidaung has the largest Rohingya population since the massive wave of violence against the Rohingya in 2017 by the Myanmar army.

‘Forceful’ conscription

The Arakan Army is “forcibly” conscripting Rohingya youth in Buthudaung, aside from committing “numerous” other abuses, according to Nay.

“In recent days, the Arakan Army has ordered two villages — Sein Hynin Pyar and Hpon Nyo Leik — to provide them with at least 100 Rohingya youth,” he said.

The rebel group, according to him, threatened that the Rohingya’s villages would be burned down if the youth were not provided for its force.

Families are being forced to pay huge amounts to avoid forced conscription, he further said.

The Arakan Army after killing almost 2,000 Rohingya and burning thousands of Rohingya houses in Buthidaung in May, began targeting the Muslim community in Maungdaw in early June, according to Nay.

Since then, he added, at least 400 Rohingya have been killed in Maungdaw.

“The Rohingya in Maungdaw are still fleeing, but due to Bangladesh’s strict policy of not allowing new refugees, many have been turned away at the border, and some have been sent back to Myanmar recently,” Nay maintained.

As of now, some Rohingya are fleeing to areas controlled by the Arakan Army.

“The humanitarian situation is very dire. The suffering in Buthidaung is beyond imagination,” he observed.

Some 600,000 members of the mostly Muslim ethnic group remain in the state, while more than 750,000 Rohingya refugees, mostly women, and children, fled Myanmar and crossed into Bangladesh after Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Muslim community in August 2017, pushing the number of persecuted people in Bangladesh above 1.2 million.

The Arakan Army suspended a cease-fire agreement in November that had been in place since the February 2021 military coup d’etat.

Pakistan slams Israeli airstrike on Gaza school, calls for accountability

Listen to article

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan on Sunday condemned in the strongest possible terms the Israeli attack on Al-Tabeen School in eastern Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of over 100 civilians, including women and children, and left many more injured.

In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson denounced the attack on the overcrowded school, which was sheltering displaced persons and occurred as they were performing morning prayers. The Spokesperson described the assault as a “horrific, inhuman, and cowardly act.”

“The indiscriminate targeting of civilian populations and facilities is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and constitutes war crimes,” the Spokesperson stated.

She further emphasized that Israel must be held accountable for these war crimes and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. “We call on the international community, especially the United Nations and backers of Israel, to take immediate steps to bring an end to the Gaza genocide and to protect the people of Gaza,” she added.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Israeli strike, calling it “an open aggression and barbarity which had no precedent in history.” He stated that Israel had “crossed all limits in its open aggression,” following the early morning attack.

The Prime Minister urged the international community, including the United Nations, to take concrete steps to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression.

He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that the leadership of Israel and its armed forces must be held accountable for the genocide of Palestinians and for committing war crimes. “Israel should face strict punishment for its gruesome crimes,” he added, emphasising the need for the implementation of an International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdict against Israel.
