Olympics 2024, Day 14 Live Updates: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued a new statement regarding Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal to be awarded the silver medal, following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024 women’s 50kg event. The CAS said that matter has been referred to the Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC (AUS), sitting as a Sole Arbitrator, adding that the decision will be taken before the end of the Summer Games. Later in the day, India grappler Aman Sehrawat playing for the bronze medal in men’s 57kg wrestling against Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz. Apart from him, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will also be in action in the women’s individual golf event. India have taken their medal tally to a total of five medals as the men’s hockey team clinched a memorable bronze while athlete Neeraj Chopra secured silver in the men’s javelin throw event. “Time for an Umpire’s Call! Every sport has rules and those rules need to be seen in context, maybe even revisited at times. Vinesh Phogat qualified fair and square for the finals. Her disqualification by weight, was before the finals, and hence, for her to be robbed of a deserving silver medal defies logic and sporting sense,” Tendulkar said in a statement.

The CAS has said that a decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal will be taken before the end of the Summer Games in Paris.
“The matter has been referred to the Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC (AUS), sitting as a Sole Arbitrator, who will hold a hearing with the parties today. The Sole Arbitrator’s decision is expected to be issued before the end of the Olympic Games,” CAS said in a statement on Friday.

Paris Olympics 2024, Day 14, Live Updates: Vinesh had filed two appeals
Two appeals were filed by Vinesh – one for participating in Thursday’s wrestling final while the second one was to get the joint-silver medal. While her first appeal was rejected, the CAS accepted her second request. The Indian authorities have appointed famous lawyer Harish Salve to represent Vinesh’s case in front of the CAS. As per the reports, the hearing will take place on Friday at 1:30 PM (IST) and Salve will be virtually joining the case.
